I am a very experienced Swedish musician, artist and entertainer, and I have been involved in traditional music since childhood. My music is mainly Scandinavian, and I play music from bygone to present time.
I started by playing the violin , and was taught fiddling by Ole Hjorth, one of the most honoured pupils of the famous folkfiddler Hjort-Anders.
Beside the violin I started to care about the older kinds of folk instruments
that have been used in Scandinavia, such as tagelharpa
(bowed harp or horsetail harp), hurdy-gurdy, lyre,
also jaw harp , Swedish
bagpipes, several kinds of traditional pipes
and flutes made of wood, bone or bark, animal
horns, lur (a long wooden trumpet). Some of them had died
out, while others still were in use, but all of them were unknown to most
people.
Today I perform with about twenty different traditional Scandinavian
instruments (photos of some of the instruments you can find by the links).
And that doesn't only mean that I can get a sound out of them, my ambition
is to make great music from the simplest of instruments.
I am honoured with the title Riksspelman (a title awarded by the Zorn Jury for traditional playing style), which is one of the finest titles you can get in Sweden as a traditional musician.
I have a Norwegian education as a teacher of traditional Norwegian music, and I have a Bachelor's Degree in antrophology , with focus at Scandinavian folk-traditions.
To-day I work as a professional musician and storyteller
. One of my specialities is to perform at historical events, exhibitions
and festivals, and I also perform with workshops, theatre
music and as a dance musician.
Since 1988 I am one of the musicians that you can hear at Skansen,
the first open air museum in the world.
I have also represented Sweden at international festivals in nine different countries.
I am performer of most of the instrumental parts of the CD "ALDER", and in May 2001 I released my next CD "ANDOR".
